Biography: Andy Black

A short biography on Andy Black, Learning and Skills Support Manager, Institutional Development directorate, Becta.

I have worked in the Learning & Skills sector for more than 15 years, primarily in the land based college sector. My major interests are the use of ICT to overcome barriers to learning in disengaged and disadvantaged learners. I have worked with rural communities in this and changing staff attitudes to e-learning. I have written extensively on these subjects, and the role of emerging technologies, and have developed a sideline in demonstrating gadgets and gizmo's along the lines of 20 gadgets in 20 minutes.

I joined Becta in July 2003 and was involved in supporting the Learning and Skills Sector. I am currently working on e-maturity framework for further education colleges. The project I am most proud of commissioning is a project involving an ICT terms glossary in British Sign Language available the QIA website. The project and a proof of concept mobile device version was showcased in October 2006 at Mlearn in Canada.
