The MoLeNET definition of mobile learning is:
"The exploitation of ubiquitous handheld hardware, wireless networking and mobile telephony to facilitate, support enhance and extend the reach of teaching and learning."
Handheld hardware used in MoLeNET projects includes:

- Smartphones and hybrid phone/PDA devices
- Ultra mobile PCs (UMPCs)
- Handheld gaming devices (e.g. Sony PSP, Nintendo DS)
- Handheld GPS devices
- Handheld voting devices
- MP3/MP4 players (e.g. iPod)
- Portable multimedia players
- Mini notebooks - Asus EEE
