Changes to MoLeNET Services and MoLeFE

Information about the changes to MoLeTV and MoLeShare following the end of MoLeNET's third phase, and details of the new services available.

Following the end of MoLeNET phase 3 LSN are very keen to continue to provide services to assist with the hosting and sharing of resources and knowledge to support mobile learning. 

For English FE colleges there will be some changes regarding the MoLeTV and MoLeSHARE services. Later this year these services will be replace by a service called MoLeFE.

All colleges, and indeed all Internet users, will still be able to view, download and RSS all learning resources and videos which have to-date been shared via MoLeSHARE and MoLeTV. However, now that the MoLeNET support programme and associated funding has come to an end, we can no longer host new videos and audio files free of charge.

MoLeFE offers English FE colleges the opportunity to subscribe to a service for hosting video and audio files (which do not have to be exclusively those intended for or related to mobile learning). Colleges that subscribe to MoLeFE will not have to worry about the disc space and bandwidth used by videos and the experience for their learners and clients will be uninterrupted relevant video streaming and downloading without any links to inappropriate or unwanted material, comments or advertising.  All subscribers will receive an unbranded MoLeTV channel to which resources specific to their college can be uploaded and if required PIN protected making them accessible only by particular groups or individuals

Within MoLeFE the sharing of good practice, information and resources previously enabled by MoLeSHARE will continue and this part of the system will be open to all at no charge.

The first 20 colleges to subscribe to MoLeFE will receive for no extra charge their own branded MoLeTV channel.

We have also developed a new authoring and distribution tool for mobile learning materials and activities (MoLeSYS - Mobile Learning System) which will be made available to all MoLeFE subscribers free of charge. 

MoLeSYS enables teachers to quickly and easily author and distribute learning activities and assessments to be used by learners on any Internet enabled mobile device, including smartphones, iPods, Sony PSPs, etc. The resources created are limited only by imagination as we have been very careful to develop a system that is easy for non-technical staff to use.  The system will allow teachers to create opportunities for remote learning and assessment, personalised and differentiated learning.  It will engage learners through multimedia activities – including text, pictures, animation video, audio and quizzes - on up to date and familiar technologies.

English FE colleges are invited to express an interest in subscribing to MoLeFE at a price of £2,995 (ex-VAT) per annum by 1^st March 2011. Charging for the service will commence when the service is launched later in the year.

Should you not wish to subscribe, your college will still be able to view and download content on both systems but you will not be able to upload new video and audio files.
