Year 3 Micro Project- M-Learning-A Tool for promoting Independent Learning in LLDD

 

The project will be based at Henshaws College, a specialist provider for LLDD with a specialism in Visual Impairment. It aims to provide and evaluate the use of mobile technologies in supporting learners to access opportunities in an employability context and identify how technology can support individual achievement. M-learning will be used as a tool to empower students with skills and confidence to maximise their independence and employability skills and minimise the effects of their disability. It aims to share and disseminate findings with established networks and providers.

Aims:

• To Support complex learners to participate in and access the pre-vocational curriculum
• To engage complex learners in work based activities and develop employment skills
• To support learners in achieving personal and long term goals including employment opportunities
• Identify strategies of reducing support and promoting independence
• Identify relevant and appropriate technologies to meet individual needs

Objectives:

• Support Henshaws College with the implementation of the Student Involvement Strategy
• Support Henshaws College in the implementation of the Vocational Pathways Strategy
• Support Henshaws College in the development of the ILT Strategy in increasing use of technology on the vocational pathway
• 20% of the student cohort (15 Students) supported with m-learning
• Identify m-learning technologies that support independence to meet individual needs
• Identify the impact of m-learning on student participation and achievement (measured through student questionnaire)
• Complete project plan, report and case study
• To disseminate findings to NY LLDD FE Network, NATSPEC and HALP
• Support development of LSIS Practitioner research project scheme 09/10 ‘Involving the Voice of LLDD in Quality Improvement’
