Year 3: MoLe HILL (Mobile Learning Help In Lifelong Learning) 2009/2010

The ultimate aim of the project is to engage target groups within work based and employment orientated learning by increasing learner access to a wide range of high quality media rich interactive learning resources, supporting inclusivity, accessibility and personalisation

Expand existing infrastructures to support greater mobile learning across all College sites and beyond using College provided or Learner owned, hand held technologies

Enhance skills of existing staff to enable them to innovate and deliver within target groups using existing, new and emerging technologies

The initiative fully meets the MoLenet criteria of employment and employability, sustainability and holistic step change

Aims:


• To introduce mobile learning technologies to Apprentices, Unemployed, Work-based learning, E2E and Teacher Training
• To engage, retain and improve achievements within the target groups through the innovative use of new and existing mobile technologies
• To enable anytime, anywhere learning and provide innovative access methods using mobile devices and the College VLE (across 44+ College sites) for approximately 800 learners
• To support personalisation by providing access to a variety of resources which appeals to a range of learning styles
• Develop innovative sustainable learning and share best practise
• Develop sustainable IT infrastructures to support future expansion
• Enable planned transformational change in m-learning

Objectives:


• To develop a pilot model for engaging and motivating target groups enabling improved attendance, retention, achievement, and progression
• To increase employability prospects of the target groups, in the current economic downturn
• To involve the Learner Voice at all stages of the project development
• Increasing existing flexible learning options for the target groups personalising the learning experience by appealing to different learning styles
• To support development and purchase of high quality media rich, interactive resources for access via the college VLE and mobile devices to increase target group access to blended learning
• Allow the use of existing learner owned mobile devices to access and engage with College resources and technologies
• The development of portable e-classrooms and e-toolkits, with Ultra Mobile PCs and handheld devices

• To extend existing access to Wi-Fi in and around all of the College centres, in both public areas and the classrooms by providing additional access points thus increasing inclusion and accessibility
• To further develop online and local resources for use with mobile devices and UMPC’s
• Overcome existing barriers to learning for target groups by using familiar and attractive technology to engage learners
• Development of personal life skills, building confidence, self esteem and enabling further progression along the learning journey
• To expand a sustainable IT infrastructure using existing technologies with fewer post project maintenance cost implications
• Building our capacity to deliver and to improve the programme supports this priority by investing in capital resource and developing the capacity of our staff to deliver learning using m-technologies
• Engage with whole College to benchmark e-maturity (pre and post project) via BECTA Generator tool
Cascade best practise via College VLE and Intranet, e-learning festival and online showcase events
• Evaluation through use of technologies e.g. video statements from learners and electronic surveys and reflective journals in Moodle
